Product Approach

Two frameworks. One shared language.

The Product Empowerment Pyramid gives your team the what, a hierarchy that runs from vision down to user story. The E3 Product Mindset gives them the how, a repeatable path from idea to impact. We fix the strategy before we fix the ticket.

The Product Empowerment Pyramid
The E3 Product Mindset
Phase 01

Envision

The why

Zoom out and validate the problem is worth solving. Every idea earns a pitch with expected outcomes and a measurement plan before it touches a roadmap.

  • Connect with customers
  • Discovery
  • Pitch deck with ROI
  • Stakeholder perspectives
  • Prioritize roadmap
  • Formal kickoff
Ends with a pitch a leadership team can fund or decline on the evidence.
Phase 02

Empower

The what

Equip the team to lead cross-functional co-creators. Epics become the single source of truth, and user stories arrive in a format co-creators can build right the first time.

  • Epic
  • User stories
  • Architect review and refinement
  • Stand-ups
  • Design, code, QA, analytics
  • Review and UAT
Ends with work engineering can build right the first time.
Phase 03

Elevate

The so what

Launch is the starting line. Build KPI Trees that connect feature metrics to business outcomes, then run read outs that prove lift and feed the next iteration.

  • Go / No-Go
  • Stakeholder updates
  • Customer engagement and feedback
  • Value updates
  • Optimization
  • Roadmap updates
Ends with proof the work moved the number it promised to move.

Questions

Asked about the two frameworks.

What is the Product Empowerment Pyramid?
The Product Empowerment Pyramid is a five-level hierarchy for product work. Vision is the why. Strategy sets the guardrails, three to five pillars that guide decisions. The Roadmap is a prioritized sequence of problems to solve. An Epic defines the solution to one customer problem. User Stories are the testable requirements co-creators build from.
What is the E3 Product Mindset?
The E3 Product Mindset is a three-phase, repeatable path from idea to impact. Envision validates that the problem is worth solving and ends with a pitch leadership can fund or decline on the evidence. Empower equips the team to lead co-creators with clear epics and user stories. Elevate measures the result and feeds the next iteration.
How do the two frameworks fit together?
The Pyramid is the what, the set of artifacts every product team maintains. The E3 Product Mindset is the how, the process that moves an idea through them. Product Managers own the why and the what, co-creators own the how, and empowerment is achieved through clarity.
Is the E3 Product Mindset the same as the E3 Product Framework?
Yes. Earlier Protege Pulse articles call it the E3 Product Framework. The name is now the E3 Product Mindset, and the three phases are unchanged.
What does "fix the strategy before the ticket" mean?
Tactical struggles at the bottom of the Pyramid are usually symptoms of ambiguity at the top. When user stories keep churning, we look at the epic, the roadmap, and the strategy above them before we rewrite the ticket.
